Personal I enjoy being scared silly, and a spine-tingling ghost film is perfect for me. Ghost movies are my favorite horror movie genre.
Two cousins were responsible for my early love of a good horror movie.

The weekend was spent at the farm of my grandparents. I was eight or nine years old and still impressionable.

Also, my two bratty older cousins stayed there. The three of us shared the two feather mattresses in the basement of the old farm.
It was there that I heard my first ghost tale. In the silence, my cousins told a spine-tingling tale that "actually", happened not far away. This story is worthy of one of the best horror films ever made. The story began with a detailed description of a child my age who was hacked in half by his crazy grandpa using an ax. Now, the ghoulish child with half of a bloody skull roams around in the countryside.

That night, I didn't sleep a wink. It was quite a while before I ever slept in my grandparents' farmhouse again.
Halloween is fast approaching, and we've had enough of vampires! This article will cover twelve of the most eerie, scary ghost movies! In chronological order, from oldest to latest and worth watching. Notice the remade versions of older ghost films.

The Uninvited (1944).

The brother and sister are moving into an old mansion on the seashore. The house was bought very cheaply, but it had a dark past. It is now haunted.

Starring: Ruth Hussey (Ray Milland), Donald Crisp (Gail Russell), and Gail Russell.

2009The storyline of the new ghost film is very different. The hair standing straight is still scary.

2 House On Haunted Hill (Haunted Hill, 1959)

The eccentric multimillionaire invites five strangers, who are not related to him or his wife, to their huge and isolated mansion. Each guest will receive 10,000 dollars if they survive the night (12 hours). The five guests arrive in a hearse. In the morning, they will all be departing by hearse.

Starring: Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long.

The storyline of the new 1999 film is similar, but with a few changes. For example, it now costs one million dollars instead 10,000 dollars and has better special effects.

Starring: Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Chris Katten.

3) 13 Ghosts (1960). This is the best horror movie ever. Uncle Zorba is an occultist who leaves a large, unusual house to Cyrus, his nephew, and his family. This house had three surprises: treasure, thirteen ghosts, and special goggles for seeing these ghosts.
Starring: Charles Herbert, Donald Woods, Jo Morrow.

The 2001 Version has the same plot, but with well-done effects. Cyrus is Cyrus' uncle.

Starring: Tony Shalhoub Shannon Elizabeth F. Murray Abraham

4) Carnival Of Souls ( 1962)

At first, a ghostly man appeared through mirrors only to an unwitting church organist. Was it someone or something from the abandoned carnival that caused this ghostly image to keep appearing? This low-budget movie still deserves a good level of fright.
Starring: Candace Hilligoss, Frances Feist, Sidney Berger.

The version of 1998 was more brutal, with a less funny clown.

Starring: Bobbie Philips and Shawnee.

5) The Haunting (1963)

A paranormal evidence is provided by an old mansion named Hill House to Dr. Markway, and his guests. This movie was spooky because of the good storyline.

Starring: Julie Harris, Richard Johnson, Claire Bloom.

1999movie with the same plot line, but Dr. Marrow is a great cast with a lot of talent.

Starring: Liam Neeson Catherine Zeta Jones, Owen Wilson Lili Taylor

6) The Fog (The Fog, 1980)

A hundred years ago, a ship with lepers on board deliberately crashed and drowned everyone aboard. The ghoulish, leper-like creatures are now back to exact revenge. They're coming through the fog. John Carpenter has the ability to create a fantastic ghost movie not just once, but twice.

Starring: Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Houseman.

2005 - Very similar version to 1980 but with improved effects. In the last 25 years, Mr. Carpenter's success has increased.
Starring: Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, Selma Blair.

7) Witchboard (1986)

Students in college start to play with a Ouija board which turns evil. They all thought it was a spirit of a ten-year-old boy.
Starring: Todd Allen, Tawny Kitaen, Clare Bristol.

8) The Sixth Sense (1998)

Cole Sear, a nine-year-old boy, can hear, see and speak to the dead after their death. Dr. Crowe, a child psychologist tries to help Cole with these...hallucinations. This is one of my favorite movies with a twist ending. One of the best horror movies soap 2day.
Starring: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette.

9) The St. Francisville Experiment (1998)

The house is haunted by the ghosts of slaves who died after suffering horrific torture. The house is haunted with the ghosts slaves who suffered horrendous torture. Four people are not prepared for the horrors about to take place.
Starring: Tim Baldini, Madison Charap, Paul Palmer.

What Lies Beneath (2001)

The wife of a university scientist starts to see apparitions. Her husband initially thinks she's crazy, but he soon sees for himself. Both must now uncover the truth to find out what lies underneath.
Starring: Michelle Pfeiffer, Katharine Towne, James Remar.

Ghost Ship (2002 )

This is one of those ghost movies where you better hold on to something. This is one of my favorite horror movies. Forty years after the original incident, a salvage team found a 1962 elite passenger vessel floating at sea. The ship was old, rusted and deserted. It was full of ghosts, gold, and ghosts.
Starring: Gabriel Byrne Julianna Margulies Ron Eldard Isaiah Washington

The Ring (2002)

The strange video with the eerie footage seems to kill you in 7 days. A phone call comes seconds after the video finishes. One week later, you will die in a horrific manner. The original Japanese film was titled "Ringu" and released in 1998. This film had to be added to my list of top horror films.
Starring Naomi Watts and Martin Henderson.
