Civil Rights, Statutory Law, Constitutional Law, and the LGBTQ+ Community
Our Goal in this lesson is to: consider what constitutes fundamental rights, under the Constitution, and apply those understandings of liberty to examine civil rights and liberties under the 14th amendment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. This portion of our investigation will prepare use with the Constitutional legal background to later help us explore the Court’s legal interpretation of sex-based anti-discrimination law in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The Supreme Court Case law examined in both investigations extends to, Obergefell et al v. Hodges (2015) and Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia (2020) with additional reference made to Romer v. Evans (1996) and Lawrence v. Texas (2003).
