Glyptodont (Greek, meaning "toothed claw") is a genus of early whales, extant cetaceans. The two species in the genus, G. muticephalus and G. porpoises, are known from the Paleocene and Eocene of Europe. Of the three known species in the genus, the species G. muticephalus is the most modern-looking and resembles a dolphin more than a whale.

Glyptodonts are among the earliest of modern cetaceans, appearing in the late Paleocene and Eocene.
Glyptodonts had a short, broad rostrum that was functional for echolocation. The snout of a glyptodont would have been comparable to that of an odontocete, with the exception of the two-bone formation that angled downward from the nostrils, and the unique tooth pattern from the upper and lower jaw. The narrow snout would have had excellent acoustics with the baleen plates allowing these early whales to "hear" prey. The horn of the beaked whale is a legacy from the formation of cetacean snouts, and the presence of specialized sound-producing baleen on the nostrils indicates glyptodonts were echolocating. It is thought that the short snout helped prevent water from entering the nose and blocking the ears of glyptodonts. If glyptodonts were not echolocating, however, this would have been a disadvantage as hearing prey in deep waters with open ocean conditions would be difficult.
The teeth of glyptodonts were similar to those of other early cetaceans. The first molars had no cusps, only protocone and metaconule, which were used to crush organic material.
