I suspect you are building your own libgdx game. You can learn a lot from the code, especially in the main game class.
In this case, you might want to think about how to start your background thread in a "proper" way. The code you copied mostly works, but what was this:

This is not good because it is creating a new thread with the run() method. 
The run() method is protected, so you can't just copy/paste it into your own class.
Your app is probably already using a Actor.
This is the class that actor is derived from.
This is the method that defines the start() method, the method that needs to be overridden:

TerraTech is a game about exploring the Galaxy using the portals on the Gliese 581g planet. The game is inspired by the 1970s game Frontier.
While the original game is great it is very difficult to make a new version because it is a package of game components: the game structure (images, sound, events etc) and the behavior of the games (players, robots, ghosts, etc).
For this reason this version of the game is made using only the images, sounds, events and the behavior of the original game.
You may expect that the images are not the same of the originals but after the conversions to byte. The only different is the feature of the game.
With this skin you will be able to use all the images, sounds, events and behaviors of the original game with almost no modifications.
You will need to download the TerraTech game and extract the Falcon Genesis folder. You will find a copy of the files with the original graphics and sounds of the game inside the folder Falcon Genesis.

About The Game TerraTech - Mission 1
The objective of this mission is to explore the planet Gliese 581g. You will find many portals on the planet. One of them is called the "Portal of Life" and it will open the path to the "Planet of Gold".
Stay alive and travel by portals to find the Planet of Gold!
Mission 1: Arena
The Planet of Gold is near. You should have some gold coins to play the game.

Destroy the asteroids and collect the gold coins.
