The line is usually invisible when it is first drawn and appears with the dotted line tool. When you select a line on the screen with the Freehand Drawing tool, it will look like the dotted line tool and will follow the mouse cursor. This ability to draw directly on the screen allows you to create detailed, complex designs that cannot be done with other types of drafting programs, such as CAD software using tables and walls or other construction aids.
In more recent versions of AutoCAD, the Freehand Drawing tool is called the “Draw” tool. When the Draw tool is selected, the cursor will no longer be represented by a wavy line. Instead, the cursor will be a toolbox that has a pencil, line, polyline, shape, and text tools. When the Draw tool is selected and the cursor is moved, the selected tool will follow the cursor. When the Freehand Drawing tool is selected and the cursor is moved, it will switch to the selected tool.
There are other advanced tools available in AutoCAD to help you create your designs. In AutoCAD 2007 and later, the screen is divided into different work areas: General, Plan, Section, and Detail. Within these work areas are tools that you can use to help you create designs.
