Commonly, influencers, celebrities and many popular faces like Ariana Grande and the Kardashians use social media application filters. Though they admit to having done different fillers and nose jobs, however, they still use these filters for more perfection. "The filter is becoming an integral part of how their Instagram viewers see their faces."
According to Melissa Atkinson, a professor, and researcher in psychology at the University of Bath, the process of internalizing cultural ideals of appearance, meaning unconsciously assimilating the "ideal standard of beauty" through social media and comparison of appearance, play an essential role in the obsession with face filters.
Atkinson says that such social media giants like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, and other digital platforms should awaken their corporate responsibility to recognize their negative consequences and act accordingly.
It is challenging for people to live in a world of "idealized version of beauty," she says.
