In the feedback intervention literature, common characteristics of the samples and measures of feedback quality are generally assumed to account for the overall positive effect of feedback on outcome. In the present study, the level of scrutiny given to these traditional assumptions is raised by including multiple criteria in the criteria sets used to evaluate the validity of studies. In a sample of 13 studies, nonoverlapping samples, different numbers of measures, and different criteria sets were used to evaluate the validity of 63 studies, most of which used the tailoring approach. The review revealed that (a) differences in the samples of studies significantly affected the magnitude of the overall positive feedback effect and (b) multiple criteria were most often used, but rarely used in combination. Thus, whereas the traditional approaches to feedback intervention evaluation are valid in themselves, they can also lead to the misinterpretation of results when applied without additional testing.
This is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, pilot study of a single dose of intravesical onabotulinumtoxinA for treating CIC. To our knowledge, this is the first study of any drug to treat CIC, and the first to employ a placebo group.
