Instead of trying to commit to a long-distance relationship, couples are leaning towards summer flings. A summer fling is where you agree with one another that you're exclusive, no one else gets your attention, practically like your dating, only exception is there's an endpoint. The end point being when you go off to college. This has become more common in today's age. As of now, I have had multiple friends go through it just in the summer of 2020. In one situation one of the couples that has been dating for two years thought long distance was going to be too hard, they didn't even give it a shot and broke up halfway through the summer. On the other hand, my friend met this girl in the beginning of the summer, both of them really into each other, although both knowing that they didn't want to date going into college, they mutually agreed to be exclusive throughout the summer and when it's time to go off they go their separate ways.
