Using EdTech tools to support remote digital literacy in secondary classrooms: Appsmashing 101

By Samantha J Shaffner Assessment and Accountability Coordinator (K-12) Pickerington Local School District Abstract: This collection was previously published July 12th, 2019 in a grad school course (ENG 699L) through Miami University’s OWP (Ohio Writer’s Program/National Writer’s Program). Although this resource was published over a year ago (before COVID-19 pushed Education to remote) the practices, protocols, exemplars, and research included in this collection are consistent best practices that support student academic growth and engagement in 21st century literacies within both remote and hybrid learning environments. The narrative in this is much like an article. I have included resources that I did not write myself, but they are inserted with organic indicators of their purposes and properly cited. Many modern day teachers and students use Wakelet to create research projects etc. As you go through the collection, think about how you could use something like this to support student engagement and learning from even a live Zoom Room. As you read, you will see a breakdown of some of the following. . . 1.)-an overview resource/EdTech tool skill is given 2.)-a rationale containing evidence of why engaging with these tools and practices supports 21st century digital literacy goals for students and teachers 3.)-a bridge or connection between these specific tools explaining ways they can be used in tandem to support asynchronous and synchronous learning (Google Classroom Apps) 4.)- some brief instructions of how to access and sync to your individual Google Classrooms!
