Charting new paths towards universal health coverage

The global health community has committed to ending the epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.

While these priorities remain, an increasingly complex global health agenda calls for the strengthening of health systems as a whole. In response, Unitaid is shifting towards a more integrated approach to health challenges.

On the occasion of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Unitaid launched its first call for proposals to help eliminate cervical cancer, particularly among women with HIV.

In an effort to forge closer links between sectors and disease communities, it also organized its first annual meeting with partners´ CEOs.

Preventing deaths from cervical cancer, investing in better diagnostics of child fever, and tackling antimicrobial resistance are three examples of Unitaid’s crosscutting work featured during the WHA.

The Unitaid-funded Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) also announced it will expand voluntary licensing beyond HIV, HCV and TB as part of its new five-year strategy.
