Harriet Harman has accused the Liberal Democrats of blocking her legislation to allow a million school pupils to be taught in languages other than English.
The Shadow Education Secretary says the Lib Dems were refusing to allow amendments to the new government policy, as the House of Commons returns for the summer recess.
Ms Harman called the move "unacceptable".
"We are now only half way through the passage of this Bill and the Liberal Democrats have made it clear they are blocking the amendments and stopping us doing what this Government promised," she said.
"It is unacceptable and quite frankly it's unbelievable that the Liberal Democrats should be doing this when they have always taken the view that the best way to make sure all children get the best education is to make sure everyone can speak their own language."
