I can see from her blog she's absolutely in love with the photographer she has now and they have some great photos from her wedding. I'm thinking if I have the initial outlay maybe I can find someone a little more reliable. Anyway here's my question. I noticed that most of the photographers I see have a photo from their website that is the very same photo taken for the couple on their wedding day. Should I be looking for something completely different? Like a particular style of photo or subjects?
i think that is just part of the process of finding the right photographer - everyone does it, even the one she has now. its a good thing because she has gone from one who chose the photographer and who decided the style to one who is happy with the results they are getting now and the style they are getting is what she wants.
Every photographer is different so it really depends on what you are looking for. I always send a link to my website for my wedding/portraits but my web site is very basic. I don't have any wedding portraits to post so hopefully she gets great photos. I would never choose a photographer based solely on a website. You need to view a portfolio, talk to them and get a feel for them. I was in love with a photographer at my cousin's wedding but he decided to work with another person so I didn't end up using him. I did however see a photographer on another wedding that I liked and used him.
Most people should be able to explain what they do. A portfolio of at least one recent wedding that is fairly recent would help a lot. If not, see if you can do a call together sometime to have a look at their work in person. This is what I did with my first photographer.
