Family members told the San Jose Mercury News that Taptejdeep "Taptej" Singh, 36, was the father to a 3-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter. He died Wednesday when a gunman opened fire on people at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light rail yard in San Jose.

Singh worked in a building separate from the one where Wednesday's shooting took place, according to the News. However, co-workers told his family that Singh "left the safety of an office where others were hunkered down to help others escape," the newspaper reported.

"We are in very deep grief," his uncle, Sakhwant Dhillon, told the News. "He told people, 'be careful, hide.' He was running around the building to save other's lives."
