I think you just don't. I couldn't get it to work that way at all. Well, I can backup the file now that I read that into my head, but if I just change the content of a file first I don't get the chance to backup it.
Yes! Good point! I found a workaround using something like the Disks view and the command line for Windows.
You can check if a file is backed up on CloudBackup. Unfortunately it doesn't say anything about the backup status (if the file was backed up or not). However, since it obviously did't backup it, you can just delete the file (or better move it to a backup directory) and use the same file name again.

It would be a very convenient workaround. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to check the backup status on the files that are not backed up.
