The English Romanticism started in 1798 when we find the first edition of the Lyrical Ballads written by Coleridge and Wordsworth.

In Britain we find a great literary production of poems. The age ended in 1937 with the beginning of the reign of Queen Victoria.

When we study this literary age we can say that there were many generations of poets.

Before 1798 we can find some poets who wrote about man and felt that they were living in an age of changes.

Among these poets we have the poet William Blake who was also a painter and engraver. He is considered a pre-romantic poet.

We traditionally study the romantic poets in two generations:

the poets of the Lake, Wordsworth and Coleridge

the second generation of poets : Byron, Shelley and Keats.
