Update 5:02 p.m. EDT Aug. 30: Ida was downgraded to a tropical depression over Mississippi late Monday afternoon, more than 24 hours after the storm made landfall as a near Category 5 storm with 150 mph sustained winds.

Torrential rains and flash flooding are still expected as the downgraded storm continues its crawl toward the Tennessee Valley, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Just before 5 p.m. EDT, Ida was located about 20 miles north-northwest of Jackson, Mississippi, moving north-northeast at 9 mph, but maximum sustained winds have dwindled to 35 mph, the NHC stated.

In turn, all tropical storm and storm surge warnings have been discontinued, and no coastal watches or warnings remain in effect.

Per the forecast, the depression is expected to remain on a faster northeastward track tonight through Wednesday, with the center of Ida moving further inland over central and northeastern Mississippi tonight, before moving across the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday and near the central Appalachians on Wednesday.
