Hamming weight is a Java applet for Java 6 and higher. It uses bit manipulations and a bit counter. It can be used for learning the basics of binary data.
This applet works by dynamically storing bit patterns as you turn on input switches. When a new switch is turned on, the bit counter increment, and it is also reset to the initial value.
Transition examples:
Try toggleing buttons 1-4 and 2-5, then toggle buttons 1 and 2, and see how the bit position in the bit counter changes.
Try a few different numbers of inputs and what the bit counter does when different number of inputs are turned on.

This is a WinRar archive of the Hamming weight Java applet. The WinRar archive includes the original Applet (.jar) and a.html file that shows the simulation.
With this Java applet, you can learn how an input bit counter circuit works. For example, you can find out how many “0”s a “1” will make when you turn on the input switches, and you can also learn a few things about bit values (for example, the least significant bit, most significant bit, and the bit with the largest value.
