Kosuke Kimura has returned to Napoli on a season-long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.
The Japan international has seen his chances at the German club decline over the last year.
He has been benched for the two games this season and, although he played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 loss against his former club Hebei China Fortune at the weekend, he has barely played for Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season.
Since then, he has been used only in one more game, a Champions League qualifier with Maribor.
Borussia Dortmund have put out a statement confirming the deal to take Kimura back to Italy.
"Borussia Dortmund confirm their loan agreement with [Kosuke] Kimura," it read. "The deal provides that Kimura will remain in the first team until the end of the season and may be extended for a further season."
Napoli will keep the Japanese midfielder until the end of this campaign but are also believed to be in talks to make the deal permanent.

Borussia Dortmund will pocket some of the fee if Kimura makes the move permanent.
Kimura's wages are set to cost the Bundesliga side around £180,000 per week.
Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be balking at paying the £1m buyout fee for Kimura.

The 25-year-old made a total of 50 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit from 2007 to 2014 but his form dipped at the end of the last campaign.
He missed out on the most recent squad due to an injury and then was sent back to Japan to work with his personal coach following the 2-0 defeat by Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB-Pokal final.
The centre-back, who joined Borussia Dortmund in August 2014 from Japanese club Gamba Osaka, then moved to Italy in July 2016 when Serie A side Sassuolo took him on loan.
