The UI changes are similar to those originally found in Windows 10X before Microsoft abandoned this project in favor of Windows 11.App icons are now centered on the system tray, with a new start button and menu. The Start menu is a simplified version of what currently exists in Windows 10, with no live tiles. It includes pinned apps and the ability to quickly shut down or restart Windows 11 devices. The operating system is identified as Windows 11 Pro in screenshots and we can confirm that it is an original.While Microsoft has retired its Windows 10X operating system, the company is obviously using much of that work with Windows 11. Windows 10X was originally designed for dual-screen devices before switching to traditional laptops and then retiring. Windows 10X included a number of refined and simplified aspects of Windows, and some of them are in the leaked screenshots.Microsoft has announced that it is ready to launch Windows 11. The software giant is hosting a special Windows event to unveil its next operating system on June 24th. The event begins at 11 p.m. ET, and the invitation to the event includes a window that creates a shadow with an outline that looks like the number 11 called new version of Windows recently. Toms Hardware can confirm the leak is genuine, but is an early build and likely not entirely representative of the final product.First, on Baidu, a Chinese forum. The two screenshots showed off a new, refreshed Start menu as well as the settings screen, which shows the name Windows 11 Pro.The image of the Start menu is the big reveal. It shows a new, centered task bar, similar to what was seen in Windows 10X prior to its cancelation. The menu doesnt have Live Tiles and lets you pin software in place. Theres also a power icon to shut down or restart your computer. That suggests theres more to show, but also verifies that this leak is real. While the build may be floating around online, its possible that it isnt yet finished.Microsoft will host an event on June 24 to announce whats next for Windows. The company has been dropping hints at it being Windows 11, including an 11-minute video of Windows startup sounds and an image showing two lights coming through a window that form the number 11. A major part of it is that its going to have a big overhaul in the UX, the codename for which is Sun Valley. As we know, a large part of the UX shift is going to come from the Windows 10X shell, and as we also know, Windows 10X is not coming to market. Now, Windows 11 is starting to leak, as expected.Some alleged screenshots appeared on Baidu (via BetaWorld) today, showing the least surprising look for Windows 11 that we could have imagined. As you can see from the image below, the taskbar is centered and it has the fly-out Start Menu, just like weve seen with the now-defunct Windows 10X. In other words, assuming that these images are legitimate, when Microsoft said it was taking some parts of Windows 10X and putting them in Windows, it meant that literally. We can see that Live Tiles, or any kind of tiles, are gone entirely. Theyve been replaced by transparent icons. The one thing that looks different from Windows 10X is the rectangular Windows logo, which is no longer trapezoidal. Its more of a blue version of the Microsoft logo.The one other image that was shown is a screenshot of the Settings page, showing Windows 11 Pro as the SKU.It seems that Microsoft is going to be sticking with its same SKUs of Home, Pro, Enterprise, and so on with Windows 11. This is no surprise, since Windows 11, under the hood, is still Windows 10 version 21H2. You can see that the Settings app is identical to what youd find on Windows 10, only with a different edition and build number. Speaking of the build number, 21996.1 is not the RTM build. Its going to be at least 22000, so its safe to say that some things will change here. Microsoft is set to announce Windows 11 on June 24 at 11am Eastern Time. You can expect that there will be plenty more leaks between now and then. We made a list of features that we want to see in Windows 11, but based on this leak, it seems like its mostly going to be just a visual refresh on Windows 10.
