1. Activate Windows using a product key
You can activate Windows using a product key or digital license. This article assumes that you have a product key or license to activate Windows.
Note
Microsoft recommends that you use a product key or digital license to activate Windows. For information about using a digital license, see Activate Windows using a digital license.
To use a product key
On the Welcome to Windows screen, select a language, then select Product key.
Select a product key or license that was provided by your Microsoft account or by the product owner. The product key or license is stored in the location that the original product key or license was saved. If you haven't purchased a product key or license for your computer, your product key or license is provided by your Microsoft account. Your product key or license can't be used on more than one Windows 10 device. For more information, see Activate your copy of Windows.
When you use a product key or license, the product key or license is used to activate Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise, and Windows 10 Education. When you use a product key or license, the product key or license is not used to activate Windows 10 Home.
If you purchased a product key or license from a retail store, then select the product key or license and enter the store's product key or license. You can also use the store's product key or license on up to five additional devices.
In the Software version area, select the version of Windows 10 that you want to activate and then select the language and keyboard that you want.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
On the Welcome to Windows screen, select Next.
2. Check your activation status
You can use the Windows activation service to verify your activation status. For more information, see Activate Windows using the activation service.
You can use the Windows activation service to verify your activation status. For example, if you purchased a product key or license from a retail store, then enter the product key or license from the store's receipt.
You also can verify your activation status from the following options:
Select Start.
Type activat and press ENTER.
Select Settings.
Select Accounts.
Select Sign-in options.
Select Sign-in method.
Select Windows activation.
Select Allow an administrator to change my activation settings. 3125841983
