How do I speed up ReactiveCocoa's RACSignal?
ReactiveCocoa's RACSignal is slower than the classic RxSwift Observable, at least on iOS 8. The standard may be to use the signal by working with the latest version of ReactiveCocoa, which is still at 3.2, instead of the 3.1.0 which has been stable for months now.
But to be honest, 3.2 is the first version that has worked at all, even though the docs are full of broken links and outdated documentation.
What worked for me was adding RxCocoa for the old version's semantics. That works, but it doesn't feel quite right, as it isn't really that much more than a sugar coating on an old API.
Are there any ways to speed up the signal, other than going back to RxSwift?

To investigate some parts of the issue, I created an implementation of CompoundDisposable that uses it's Dispose(disposing:) method to dispose of the underlying disposable when disposed. It's mostly taken from this answer, which uses a similar concept.
After the realization that the issue was actually using a reference to an old library, and not actually looking for a solution to the problem using RxSwift, I stumbled across this idea in this source file. In that section, he notes that he's (apparently) using a reference to a newer library in an effort to make a solution using manual memory management. That would seem to imply that I'm not the only one with this problem, and that there is in fact a more elegant approach.
Thus, I wrote my own version of RACSignal (I figured that the obvious thing was to reuse  ReactiveCocoa's, because I'm not a Mattt Thompson fan) that is pretty much the same as the old one except for a few minor changes and one tiny optimization:
It uses an internal queue to perform disposing, similar to the idea in this source file.
It does not invoke the underlying disposable's deinit() method.
