The Spirit of Britannica

As we come to the end of a very unusual Spring Term, I would like to salute the Britannica community. The last few weeks have been a challenge but one that you have risen to admirably.

To the students, thank you so much for all the hard work and enthusiasm, particularly over the last weeks but also during the 'normal' times prior to mid -march. You have shown incredible versatility, adaptability, independence and resilience to manage the different situations that have come your way. In recent weeks, I know you have kept the school staff and the parents going with your creativity and dynamism. Not to mention your smiling faces in the video conferences. I have had the pleasure of seeing a huge number of incredible videos, written pieces, models, essays, projects, assessments, pictures and stories. You are a credit to the school.

To my staff, I can only thank you for the professionalism you have shown throughout the term. In recent times, you have all worked incredibly hard to create something special, in terms of our 'at home' learning provision. We have all enhanced our skill set immeasurably and I know this will be beneficial to everybody in the long-term. Your care for the students has been exemplary.

To the parents, thank you so much for the support you are giving to the school and your children at this time. It is tricky for everyone but your positivity and encouraging messages have given the students and staff a boost at key times.

In recent days, such has been the success of what is currently happening, I have received requests for it to continue during the Easter break!

We considered this at management level and concluded that, in the majority of cases, staff and students are ready for a break. They have been working since Christmas with only a week off. and need to rest, relax and refresh. It may well be a long summer term online and we want everyone to feel eager and ready to return to schooling after Easter. Additionally, there is no specified return date as yet, so we would not want to change the calendar until we have further information from the government on the length of the at home period.

Having said that, there are likely to be some challenges, extension work and optional tasks available should you be a family that is looking for something additional during the break.

We are conscious of the well-being of everybody in our community and are constantly adapting our thinking to reflect the needs of us all as human beings at this time.
