Sangam 2017
Sanam Marvi + Harshdeep Kaur An evening of sublime Sufi music To celebrate the opening of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s HOME1947, an immersive installation marking 70 years since the Partition of British India, we’re delighted to present a one-off concert bringing together two of Sufi music’s brightest female stars. Sanam Marvi, an extraordinary, much-loved singer and a dazzling master of the epic qawwali style, and Harshdeep Kaur, a popular playback singer known for her soulful voice and Bollywood hits, will be joining forces at The Lowry – performing solo sets and then singing together for the very first time. Hosted by Noreen Khan of the BBC Asian Network, this evening of sublime Sufi music will celebrate the extraordinarily rich musical culture of South Asia in unique and inspiring style. ‘Sangam’ is an urdu and punjabi word meaning to come together, to join in, to meet. #sangam2017
