In this Instructable you will NOT be learning how to make a game from scratch, however this will lead you to the eventual process of that. This Instructable will be teaching you how to edit a basic game, which is the first step(in my opinion) in becoming a game developer. WARNING: Basic Javascript and HTML5 skills are required for this, these can be easily picked up at up the website https:github.comdmcinnesHTML5AsteroidsThis website will give you a basic HTML5 asteroids game, no gimmicks or tricks, completely free.On the right side of the screen you should see a download zip button. Click it, and choose the designated place you wish for it to be downloaded at.Once you have downloaded the file you want to right click it and click extract all. From here you again select the location you wish for the file to be.Once you have found the extracted file you will need to download a code editing software. The one I use frequently is brackets, its open source and completely free. Brackets however doesnt just edit Javascript but also HTML5, CSS, and much more. To download brackets go to Brackets is downloaded open your extracted Asteroids game file. You will see a Game.js file. Once you see it you want to click open with, and then select brackets.Once game.js is open you are ready to start editing the most preliminary parts if the game. I recommend start with lines 368-379, as these are how the ship looks and are easy to notice differences once edited.To see your work at any given time go to top left of the screen, click file then save. Once you have saved your work open a new brackets file named index. Review of Palladium Fantasy RPG Second EditionGoto Index I have always felt that Palladium Fantasy has been a very underrataed game. The setting is interesting and fun while the mechanics actually runs smoothly. The 2nd Edition adds a lot more flavor and upgrades the system to be compatible with the entire product line of Palladium. It doesnt hurt that this book is jammed packed with information and source material that few RPG companies even come close to doing. The system in essence is based on AD&D with a heavy variation. The system uses a point based spell system, point based psionic system, combat that uses a blend of dodging, striking, and parrying that represents a strong cinematic feel. Character creation can be time consuming depending on what you are. A fighter might can take twenty minutes to make while a Wizard could easily take up to forty-five minutes, but the great detail involved with skill selection, powers, and bonuses are quite impressive. The details involved with wards, rune language, and symbols for the Summoner and Diabolist are very intricate. One thing this book is loaded with is options. The main book has over twenty-five character classes, over three-hundred spells, over fifty psionic powers, stats for demons and devils, magic items, rune weapons, ton of character races, and world information. I wouldve I liked more setting details then that were represented in the book, but then again it mightve pushed the page count up three-hundred and fifty pages. There is enough world information to get by with. Some people are turned off by Rifts because of the power and confusing system, but Palladium Fantasy is well-balanced and the system is very clear and enjoyable. With Palladium starting to support the line with great sourcebooks like Western Empire and Baalgor Wastelands this is a perfect time to jump into a great fantasy game. Even if dont wish to learn a new system, the book is a great for source material. Overall, Id suggest serious fantasy fans and those who are looking for something different to give it a try.Style: 5 (Excellent!)Substance: 5 (Excellent!)
