Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 23!

We have returned fresh and eager after the long weekend break! We now have a lengthy push as we enter a very important phase of the academic year. This is where we really put our noses to the grindstone, as they say.

Well done to the Secondary winners of the internal Maths Olympiad who will now proceed to the interschool round, where they will compete against other international schools on the 21st of March. EIS has some very sharp mathematics students (see below) so I am confident they will make a good show of it and proudly represent the school. Good luck guys!

A big well done to the Headteacher Award recipients below. Hopefully, you can see the photos attached and appreciate the art work on display:

Prerona Y4 - amazing painting of a canal way in Venice. It is currently pinned onto my office door.
Maja Y 6 - excellent comic book style renditions of Sponge Bob and Gumball (two weeks in a row for a HTA!)

So, I managed to get around the school quite a bit this week which I always enjoy and find very refreshing. I was, actually, invited into the Year 2 classroom by Ms. Waldron to have a look at some wonderful projects based on important figures originating from their home nations. In there were figures from South Korea, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Russia.

I was also invited to attend Ms. Martin's Singing Club. Don't worry, I didn't sing and spoil it for the children! Honestly, I was expecting more of a laugh but it was actually very good quality and the cohort were producing some wonderful performances. I was very surprised.

Two more honorable mentions from me: Milon from Y4 and Y7 Science. Milon has been really impressing me at times lately and proving himself to be a potentially great role model. He showed me his work on computer coding and even brought his laptop into my office. It was very impressive! I happened to be walking past Mr. Scholtz's science experiments on acidity with Y7 and I very much enjoyed the visuals, and answers the cohort were voicing.

Finally, well done Ms. Catherine and Ms. Frida for a wonderful end to the week with another splendid Maslenitsa celebration at EIS. The students were doing in-class lessons as well as arts and crafts such as sun making, doll craft, baranki necklace making and pancake darts. Ms. Catherine had also been providing teaching session sin the library all week in the 'Maslenitsa' corner. Naturally, we finished the day with the baranki number guessing competition, the khorovods dance and, of course, the often-vaunted highlight of the day - the burning of the doll!
