The study, released by the Energie-Quotidien Association, said that cars sold in France in 2018 represented 2.12% of the total European market share for electric vehicles.
"The phenomenon of the electric car is fast becoming a reality in France," said Henri Toulmouche, head of the association.
"We have the know-how, the equipment and the expertise to go from zero to a fully functional electric car very quickly."
In 2018 alone, 250,000 electric cars were sold in France, with 90,000 of them being made in France, according to the report.
Electric cars are generally more expensive than their traditional diesel and petrol counterparts, but the report showed that Tesla accounted for about half of all electric cars sold in France last year.
In 2019, the association hopes to raise awareness about the increase in the number of electric cars on the roads.
"We have to break the myth that an electric car is too expensive," Toulmouche added.
"People can afford to buy one now if they know what they are going to get for their money."
The Association is calling for the state to continue to subsidise electric cars to help drive down prices.
Lithium-ion batteries are responsible for most of the electric vehicles' long range, although in some cases pure electric cars also offer "over 300km" of range.
Lithium-ion batteries are not well-suited for short-term use and do not work well if used extensively, Toulmouche admitted.
But the associated said that certain electric car models are proving to be "very robust" and can be used for multiple years.
"It is not necessarily a matter of owning a hybrid," Toulmouche said, and pointed to the all-electric BMW e-Golf as an example.
BMW also offers an electric variant of the Mini Cooper.
Both of these electric cars have a range of over 300km

 Visit the website.
 In the LJ Software Office Productivity Add-ons section, click the item indicated in the top-right to enter the extension's customization settings.
 Once you are in the Main Options panel, make sure that the RSS box is selected and then click "OK."
 A green question mark appears at the right side of the toolbar if RSS is enabled. If the tool appears grayed out, disable the extension and then enable it again.
 Once the extension appears in the toolbar, click on the refresh button to start refreshing feeds.
 To create folders, click on the menu icon (the three horizontal lines) and select New Folder.
 You can also select existing folders and then right-click to rename them.
 To delete feeds, click on the trash can icon (the three horizontal lines) and then click Remove Feed.
 A new line will appear after each feed in the unread view, indicating the number of unread items.
 To delete an individual feed, click on the trash can icon to the right of the feed name.
 To mark a feed as read, click on the feed name.
 To mark an individual feed as read, click on the feed name.
 To mark a folder as read, click on the folder icon and then click Read Feed.
 To remove the Read Feed icon, right-click on a folder, select Read Feed, and then click Clear Read Feed.
 To update the feed, click on the actual feed name.
 To delete the feed, click on the feed name.
 Once a feed is successfully deleted, the icon will turn gray and that indicates that the feed has been removed from the collection.
 To add feeds, select Add Feed.
 To add a feed to an existing folder, click on the folder icon and then click Add Feed.
