Story
In the Year 910, one year after the Heian Era, the first wave of an epidemic known as the Kotoura (黒財) brings the weak of the populace to a close. However, with the blind leading the blind, people are driven to engage in self-destructive behavior such as drinking and gambling, and things seem to get worse rather than better. Shortly after a tidal wave sweeps the nearby city of Kamakura, and a powerful divine presence appears, casting this world into chaos. As with its own name, the Kotoura quickly sweeps across the country, and more bodies fall victim to it.
On the verge of a major war, the civil war takes place between the forces of the Tokugawa Shogunate and their rivals, known as the Choshu Clan. Unwilling to lose their base city of Kyoto, the Choshu clan sets forth on a huge invasion of the capital. They drive their enemy back, but this attack becomes the catalyst for further unrest. With both sides led by neophytes, a conflict emerges between the two groups who have been vying for the throne for decades, with the elite families taking the side of their favorite son. As the Kotoura spreads, the death toll mounts.
At this time, the Academy of War, also known as the Kyoan, is preparing for a new war. However, their troops are not combat-ready and are in need of new recruits. In order to protect the capital, the students take it upon themselves to save the city by taking up arms to fight the enemy on the ground. Within the Academy, a battle brews between the loyalists and the reformists, with the former bringing peace to the capital and the latter fomenting rebellion in the land. As the Choshu Clan’s army rushes forward with the battle raging on, the people of the capital must choose the side of peace.
