From the Vice Principal
Welcome back to all of our returning students and families and a warm welcome to our new students and families who are joining us this year. We are so happy and excited to have your children be with us at LVS. We hope that all of you had a safe and healthy summer break and are ready to go for this school year.  We are hopeful that this year will begin to look more and more like a “normal” year. Many of the safety protocols that were in place last year, are again in place for this year to ensure that everyone remains safe.
Other info:
· Please do not use the parking lots to drop your children off in. You may use the bus loop or drop off on the south side of 7th Ave.
· Student fees: please pay your student fees if you are able. We can set up payment plans as well. 
 
Looking for ways to give your child an advantage to start the year? Consider these tried and true tips:
Enough sleep. Please ensure that your child gets enough sleep so that they feel refreshed and alert to learn. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine this is what each child needs for sleep every night:
School-age children (5-12 years): 9 to 12 hours
Teenagers (13-18 years): 8 to 10 hours
Eating well (for children and families)
· Start the day with a healthy breakfast.
 · Let kids help plan and prepare 1 meal each week.
· Eat together as a family as often as possible.
· Take time eating, and chew slowly.
· Eat more vegetables and fresh fruits.
· Eat more whole grains.
· Drink plenty of fluids.
Turn off all technology at least 2 hours before bed.—Electronics affect melatonin which is your sleep hormone. When melatonin is interfered with, you have trouble getting a good night’s sleep.
