The area is the largest in New Jersey. The county seat is Mount Holly. Burlington County had a population of 461,860 as of the 2020 US Census, making it the 11th largest of the 21 counties, 2 an increase of 13,126 (2.9%) from the US Census population of 448,734 in 2010 3 4 The most populous place in the county was the borough of Evesham, with a population of 45,538 at the 2010 census. The borough of Washington had an area of 102.71 square miles (266.0 km2), the largest of any municipality in the county. Burlington County lies east of the Delaware River and is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Vineland Combined Statistical Area, PA-NJ-DE-MD, also known as the Delaware Valley. However, the county spans the entire state, and its southeastern corner reaches the mouths of the rivers that lead to New Jerseys Great Bay, which separates the county from the Atlantic Ocean. There are several anomalous mountains, such as Apple Pie Hill and Arneys Mount, which are the highest in the county and some of the highest in South Jersey, at about 240 feet (73 m) above sea level. The lowest point is sea level on the Delaware and Mullick rivers. Most of the land is occupied by rivers, streams and wetlands.
