Dear all,

Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 17!

Without doubt the most eventful and busiest week of the year so far. It has been an amazing platform for students and parents alike. To put it in perspective, I handed out 5 Headteacher Awards this week, way above the average number.

Before I get into it, a sad goodbye to Jaayden from Y6, a great footballer whom i have had the pleasure of watching develop, in and out of the classroom, over a 3-year period. He has made us all proud and has turned into a responsible, conscientious and positively influential young man. We wish you the best for the future!

Along similar lines, although they do not leave until next week, we had a farewell party for Kinza Y8, Fatima Y9 and Maham Y11. I must apologies to these wonderful sisters for giving away the secret for the occasion - I had not realised it was a surprise. They reassured me I had not ruined the occasion, so thank you for being polite, girls. Wonderful home cooked food was on offer at the party as well as pizzas, snacks and drinks. Thank you to all who contributed.

Headteacher Awards to the following this week (including brief reasons):

Wojciech Y2 (for being an honest and smartly dressed young man this week)
Boris Y12 (running a Maths club singlehandedly for multiple secondary age groups)
Arianna Y5 (her comic book and paper chain - I will talk more about the comic book below)
Zeeshan Y11 (for finding Mr. Dole's flash drive on school grounds which had been lost for a while)
Jaayden Y6 (his last week and great ambassador to the school)

So, to expand upon Arianna's award: she was very poorly at one point earlier in the year and spent some time in hospital. What did she do in that time? She created her own 75-page comic book over a 5-week period! I have attached photographs, and I have to say the quality is amazing. Arianna presented her work to every class in the school, along with Sophia Y5, and all of the teachers were well impressed. In fact, some students have requested copies of the work to read in their own time! High praise, indeed.

Finally, International Day was, once again, wonderful. A huge thank you to all of the parents who contributed in whichever way they could. It's these things that make EIS such a special community, family driven school. I had a guest from another international school visit me on Thursday and he mentioned the strong reputation of our school around the city, the impressive academic performances of our students and the wonderful atmosphere in the building. That is coming from a competitor so I was deeply touched by his comments.
