Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 30!

A shorter one this week as it was only three days but it was History Week so plenty going on. There should be an excellent gallery of photos from the 3-day event and a write-up by our History guru and event leader - Mr. Patrick Woods. An honourable mention to Mr. Marsh for being the Primary representative and part of this process as well.

To begin with, we changed the name of our Houses, to be in keeping with History Week, to the following:

Roman Eagles
Persian Tigers
Viking Wolves
Medieval Bears

From there, EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3 all competed in Jeopardy style quizzes as a House competition. Ms. Martin mentioned to me that EYFS/KS1 was excellent and very well-received. I managed to pop in and see KS3 do their quiz as well. Well done Eagles by the way, it was a close one! I particularly like how the quiz was separated in various categories such as the Renaissance, WWII, US Civil War and Random.

All week the students had been creating crowns, tiaras, shields and coats of arms. I took a quick photo of the Secondary display board for the latter and some of the rooms I visited. Also, the classrooms were all given a historical theme, for example, the great fire of London, the history of transport, ancient Egypt, the history of space travel, ancient Greece and WWII etc. The children circulated theses rooms in carousel fashion learning about each time period. They were all outstanding but Y3 and ancient Egypt (Ms. Holly) and Y6 and WWII (Mr. Marsh) were incredible!

We finished the week with a dodgeball tournament with a twist! The students wore their crowns and tiaras, and equipped themselves with their shields as the defending themselves from a bombardment of 'boulders' aka paper balls. If they could not defend against the onslaught they were out. Again, the children competed as Houses and went to war! An excellent event, thank you Mr. Vadim and Ms. Anna.

History was my degree at university and the subject has been a lifelong passion so I had a wonderful week and I am so glad to see the students being inspired and educated in such a splendid way. Well done, folks, it was an honour to go back in time with you all!
