Akai Miniak is an analog modeling synthesizer from Akai, which is very similar to the classic Korg PM5.
At first glance, its main aim is to "simulate" a wide range of analog synthesizers, but there is also a 2-octave keyboard, so you can play the instrument as a piano.
It can run in 16 different modes for monophonic and polyphonic sounds.
Each mode can be divided into 2 sections:
1) Filter mode: It can be FM, AM, PWM or Pulse Width modulation filter. Each mode
affords a different sound quality (natural, metallic, saw, etc.).
2) ADSR: ADSR stands for "Advanced-Dynamic-Sound-Rescue", which gives you the ability
to change the character of the instrument on the fly, through the modulation wheel.
3) FM mode: this allows you to change the pitch of the filter from two octaves above and below the selected note. This is important when using filters with different tone colors (in case of PM5 the range is from 1 to 4 octaves).
