At 8 p.m. EDT, authorities were still searching for roughly 20 people not located since floodwaters inundated the middle Tennessee community.

“We’ve experienced a devastating loss of life over the last couple of days. We’ve lost more in this event than we did in the train explosion in 1978, but we’ve seen the community come together,” Waverly Department of Public Safety Director Grant Gillespie told the TV station.

Gillespie also confirmed to WSMV that there had been an arrest on Sunday for looting after someone was caught trying to steal from a business that was damaged in the storm.

Meanwhile, a reunification center has been set up at McEwen High School, but an 8 p.m. curfew for residents of both Waverly and all of Humphreys County remained in effect Sunday night, the TV station reported.

According to WTVF, search and rescue efforts will continue through sunset and resume Monday morning.
