Tina Turner taught us how to be unapologetically fierce in all ways. She showed us how live a joyful life, love yourself and your family, follow your dreams, stay grounded in your faith, take care of business, sing your song and dance like there's no tomorrow -- on the greatest legs ever.

The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll is now among the ancestors at 83. She had a kidney transplant in 2017 after being diagnosed with high blood pressure in 1978 and suffering a stroke in 2009. She was also diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016

"My kidneys are victims of me denying the fact that my hypertension needed therapy with conventional medicine," Turner said as a spokesperson for the Show Your Kidneys Love campaign. "I put myself at great danger by refusing to accept the reality that I required daily medication for the rest of my life. I considered my body an invulnerable and indestructible bastion for way too long."

"How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world?" asks Angela Bassett, who portrayed Turner in the film "What's Love Got to Do With It?"

"Through her courage in telling her story, her commitment to stay the course in her life, no matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a space in rock and roll for herself and for others who look like her, Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like," Bassett said in a tribute on her Instagram page.

"She gave us more than we could have ever asked. She gave us her whole self. And Tina Turner is a gift that that will always be 'simply the best.' Angels sing thee to thy rest … Queen."
