Plot
Goynar Baksho (Jewellery Box) is the story of two sisters, Mayur (Raima Sen) and Bimli (Jaya Seal), who were born in Bangladesh during the partition.  After partition, their father (Saheb Chatterjee) and mother (Pushti Sen) moved to India where they stayed with Mayur's grandmother (Indrani Haldar). Mayur was raised in the care of a widowed aunt (Indira Banerjee), who treats her like a daughter. When Bimli turns 5, Mayur's mother passes away after a fall at the railway station. After the funeral, Mayur moves to Dhaka with her grandmother. There, she is befriended by a cousin (Charu Sombath), who gives her the nickname "Sona" (meaning pearl). The story then jumps ahead to 2011 where Mayur has returned to Kolkata (then known as Calcutta) and is living in a rented apartment with her widowed mother. Bimli, now a married woman with her two children, lives in Kolkata with her husband (Nishant Das). Mayur goes to her grandmother's house to spend time with her. Her grandmother has two daughters: Anushka and Gurbachan (Goynar). Anushka has a husband, Sujit (Anindya Banerjee).  Gurbachan is the most studious among the three sisters, and also the most dutiful.  She is very protective of Mayur and has a crush on her boyfriend. Gurbachan thinks Mayur is innocent but also sees her as a monster due to her indifference towards her family.
At a public library, Mayur meets a man who is studying in an Indian university and wants to find his family. She pretends to help him and eventually finds his family in Kolkata. He introduces himself as Biman Roy, and tells her to meet him on the night of a full moon. She takes his advice, only to learn that Biman Roy was a gandho, a cheating husband.
