You can install it either globally or build it for a specific platform.

Open the 'Fossil' dialog:
From the 'Games' menu select 'Fossil' and you will be presented with the following dialog. Choose the option to 'run fossil' and a Fossil window will appear.
The above dialog is just for illustrative purposes, it is not necessary to run fossil manually.

The options dialog is only for choosing the default operation parameters. You can customize your working fossil environment by editing the fossil.conf file (see Fossil.conf)
Sending your work
You can send your work to fossil by connecting to it with your editor.
If you are using an IDE (Integrated Development Environment), you will want to do this via the GUI:
Once the IDE is connected and opened, you want to go to Tools > Fossil > Send, and select the options appropriate for your situation.

Using Fossil
While Fossil is running, open the 'Fossil' dialog from the 'Games' menu.
The Fossil window, showing the current repository state should appear.
If you do not see the Fossil window, try running fossil manually (see above).
If you want to send a work-in-progress to fossil before saving it, use the 'Save to Fossil' menu option.
This sends your fossil work to the repository in its current state.
To stop sending a work to fossil, use the 'Send' button.
Note that while Fossil is running, you can view and edit your repository online using the Fossil ui (see above)
Command line
Portable Fuel is fully supported from the command line.
This is useful if you want to work entirely from a terminal
