Reviewing immediately after class help you recall ideas because they have just discussed.Studying one hour after class can help you practice and develop study habits.  This may be difficult at first, but when you are used to it, your study session would just become part of your daily routine. Weekly reviews are also part of your study session and become part of your study habit.  
This refreshes your memory and promotes better recalling of your materials.  If you want to master something, repetition is the best.  The more times you look at your notes and other learning materials, the more it would be easy for you remember them.  
Studying before exams
Some say that you should not study before exam because that would not be productive.  But it is still a good time to study.  It would help you recall more of the ideas and evaluate what have you remembered with what you have studied.
