Pre-listening / Pre-reading tasks
Write London on the board. Ask students to tell you what they know about this city. Have they been to London? Do they know any famous places in London? Explain that you are going to say the first part of a famous place in London and that they have to complete the name. Put the students into groups/pairs, ask for hands up to complete the names, and give a point for each correct answer. 
Use these places: 
💙 Big Ben - is the common name for the Great Bell of the Great Clock of Westminster, which weighs 14 tons and is found inside the tower called Elizabeth Tower. The Great Clock of Westminster is a striking clock with five bells. The gothic-styled tower standing 315 feet (96 m) high holds a four-faced clock and was built in 1858 at the far end of the Parliament.
💙 London Eye - is an observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest observation wheel, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over three million visitors annually.
💙 Tower of London -  is a  royal fortress and London landmark. Its buildings and grounds served historically as a royal palace, a political prison, a place of execution, an arsenal, a royal mint, a menagerie, and a public records office. It is located on the north bank of the River Thames.
💙 Tower Bridge - is a movable drawbridge. The bridge was completed in 1894. It is about 240 metres (800 feet) in length and provides an opening 76 metres (250 feet) wide. Its twin towers rise 61 metres (200 feet) above the Thames. 
💙 Buckingham Palace - Buckingham Palace is a royal residence in London and the administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality.
💙 Houses of Parliament - The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is located in London, England. It is commonly called the Houses of Parliament after the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two legislative chambers which occupy the building.
💙 Oxford Street - Oxford Street is a busy shopping street in the West End of London. It spans 1.2 miles long. It has around 300 shops  from fashion and beauty, to tech and homeware and welcomes more than 200 million visitors a year. Oxford Street is the ultimate shopping paradise. Shop the very best high-street brands such as Gap, River Island, Primark, X and the UK's iconic department stores, including Selfridges, John Lewis & Partners, House of Fraser and Marks & Spencer.
💙 Madame Tussauds - Madame Tussauds is a wax museum founded in London in 1835 by the French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud. One of the early main attractions was the Chamber of Horrors, which appeared in advertising in 1843.
💙 Piccadilly Circus - Piccadilly Circus is a road junction and public space of London's West End in the City of Westminster. It was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with Piccadilly. In this context, a circus, from the Latin word meaning "circle", is a round open space at a street junction. 
Give help if necessary e.g., ‘Is it Big Bob or Big Ben?’
Ask students how tourists usually visit these famous places. Do they go on foot, by train, taxi, or tourist bus? Ask who usually talks to the tourists about the famous places during a tour? (A tour guide.)
