Using Adobe Camera Raw
Another way to make quick color and brightness edits is by using Adobe's separate utility, Adobe Camera Raw (see Figure 9-7).
Adobe Camera Raw is a simple photo processing program that enables you to fix your photos with a few simple clicks. You can focus on the areas where you need to tweak to fine-tune your image. You can adjust your image's color, contrast, and sharpness.

Now is an excellent time to download Photoshop Elements if you’re in need of a new photo editor. The package is available for about $55 on Amazon for a limited time.
I’ll also include a comparison between the free, professional version of Photoshop and the $35 price for Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements vs Photoshop
Before getting started, let’s quickly go over Photoshop’s most significant features and capabilities for editing photos.
Many professional image editors and graphic designers use Photoshop for their workflow. Photoshop has advanced features for working with multiple layers, blending modes, and more.
The main differences between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements are around the user interface.
Photoshop Elements has a simpler user interface that’s better suited for the average user. It works great for photographers, designers, hobbyists and artists.
The default features on Photoshop Elements are much simpler, and there is a different workflow from Photoshop. Photoshop Elements provides a much more streamlined user interface and less options.
Photoshop Elements
In Photoshop, most of the features are in their “Basic” or “Standard” views.

Layers
The best and most obvious feature of Photoshop for editing photos is the ability to add layers. Layers are one of the most powerful features of Photoshop.
You can use layers to build complex images by combining several different images, making adjustments to each layer, and making adjustments to those layers.
Creating a new layer in Photoshop is simple:
You can also increase the size of layers using the “Increase Layer Sizes” option.
Adding a new layer is just as easy:
Photos don’t come in layers so you have to merge layers to create a new image. To do this, you select the objects that you want to combine and press the “Merge Visible” option.
You can make adjustments to a layer by selecting the layer and pressing the “Adjustments” command.
Choose an adjustment such as “Levels” or “Curves” and Photoshop Elements applies the adjustment and displays the effect.
