Dear all,

I would like to start this newsletter entry by saying well done to all of the staff at EIS and congratulations; we have just been accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). COBIS operates on a five-year accreditation cycle so it's a long-term process, but we have stayed the course and navigated through a pandemic, lockdowns, sanctions and more. Well done, folks.

This week at EIS I had the pleasure of watching Ms Fox's Year 8 class paint eyes in the style of Marion Bolognesi - it was an outstanding lesson and I was very pleased to be able to showcase the work to the rest of the school. I also had the pleasure of watching Mr Fred's Year 9 class get into the nitty-gritty of development gaps around the globe and using Brandt lines; another very good lesson. Well done, both.

May I, on behalf of myself and the teachers at EIS, say a big thank you to those who sent gifts and well wishes for World Teacher's Day on Wednesday. As always, it's incredibly appreciated. A big well done to the Year 11 students - Josefina and Liza - for creating a huge 'Happy Teacher's Day' card for the day. Many of the students have added some heart-felt messages on the inside. In other news, our food drive is almost at maximum speed. The huge tub we have used is overflowing just as the deadline on Monday is approaching. It's an amazing achievement. So, again, a huge thanks to anyone who has donated to the cause. I am sure the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy will be extremely grateful for such a bounty of food. Much obliged.

Mr Marsh and I have begun our Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) recruitment drive and received plentiful interest as ever. We have sent out permission forms to the parents of this cohort so, hopefully, this will result in there being confirmation for an overall group of 15. The group runs from Year 9 to Year 12 this year, with 9 girls and 6 boys. It'll be a challenge for all of them but for different reasons; for example, we have recruits who are excellent at the physical side of DofE but how do they slow down or help those in need? What about those who are quieter or lack confidence, can they become leaders? These are just a couple of basic questions and facets of the award. Good luck to them.

Mrs Waldron's Student Council has almost been fully assembled, with the majority of the members having been voted in but we are still waiting on some. Details will follow, I am excited to see how this area develops.

Likewise, we had another PTA/coffee morning get-together at EIS where we chatted informally, as well as exchanged ideas around Halloween. On that note, if anyone would like to join the PTA WhatsApp group then please contact Ms Julia Vaskova at the office.
