The TAPcfg Utility is a userland application that provides a virtual network interface for your computer. The interface of TAP is similar to any other ethernet interface such as eth0.
Tapcfg is built using Qt4/Qt5 and C++. It uses the libext2fs library to talk to the Linux kernel over AF_UNIX filesystems.

This is a picture of my latest project. I've recently been trying to solve a problem with my server, and I am at loss because of how insane my problem is.
I was hosting a website, and my server crashed. I lost all files. Then all pictures, music, and video from a folder from my hard drive crashed. I was nearly a month without any media files on my server.
This is an example of a basic TAP configuration. It uses tapcfg. Which is a tool built in Qt5 using libext2fs.
I am using this with a VM that runs through VirtualBox

Tapcfg Virtual Networking library provides a simplified API to be used by the software developers.
The library contains the functions to create the virtual network interface, configure it, and set the TAP device as the default gateway on the host.
The API is required for the developers in user space to create the virtual network interfaces in user space.
This library should make virtual networking much easier for application developers.
TAP is a virtual networking device which allows userland applications to receive all packets sent to it including the ethernet headers. The userland applications can also send raw packets to the TAP device and they will be forwarded to the kernel like they would be coming from a real network device.
The following tapcfg shell script installs TAP into your system. Please follow the instructions carefully and read the installation notes. Before installing, create a self-signed certificate.
You will have to edit the /etc/docker/daemon.json file to enable TAP:

Please use lsof to verify, that the TAP device is using the new interface.
You can verify if TAP is now installed in your system by running:
ifconfig -a
Please ensure that the following changes are made to the /etc/neutron/qos.conf file
IFACE_TYPE=qos
Allocate ::1 for the bond
Allocate X.X.X.X for the host
Please use lsof to verify, that the TAP device is using the new interface.
The first two lines in the config file below are included as a backup in case the TAP device is rebooted.

TAP Virtual Networking has a small problem. If you are using VXLAN with bridge groups and use a driver that uses tap for the network interface, the interface is not enabled.
