SniffPass is a software tool designed to sniff the traffic passing through your network card. Based on various detection techniques, it can detect information about users using an email or network service, such as POP3, SMTP and FTP, or a particular application such as anti-virus software or remote web server.
The application will detect specific protocols for incoming connections (POP3 or IMAP4) and outbound protocols (SMTP) and alert you to any potential security vulnerabilities. It also identifies the type of data included within each packet, display passwords and log in attempts for POP3, SMTP and FTP protocols.

SniffPass Types of Usage:
You can use SniffPass for different purposes. We have already mentioned that the application can help you test different protocols such as SMTP (Message Transfer Services), FTP and POP3. Additionally, it can alert you to the IP addresses of the users that are trying to log in to your email server and your domain name service. Furthermore, it helps you identify the type of data that is included within the packets. When this data is displayed on the screen, you can see if the application ran successfully, and the result of the examination will be added to a CSV file. You can also include the values that are being displayed in a Text file.

After downloading the software, unzip it and run the SniffPassSetup.exe file to install SniffPass. You can also move the extracted SniffPass folder directly to your desktop if you wish.
Begin with a full, uninstalled system. Then, you may need to restart your computer if you are going to be capturing packets while it is running. This is usually the case if you are going to be capturing traffic from different sources at the same time. But, most often, you can just reboot your computer (or log off and log back in).
Clicking on the Start menu will take you to the SniffPass folder within your Downloads folder.
Open the SniffPass folder (it should open in your default text editor). You may have to click the Open button to open it as the text file will open with the HexEdit program.
Open the SniffPass.csv file with your text editor (I use Notepad++).
Save the file.
Close the hex editor, then click the Open button.
Depending on the settings you have selected, the sniffer will appear in your taskbar.
Open a command prompt and navigate to the SniffPass folder.
In the command prompt, type “sniffer.exe –r –t”
The above command will configure the sniffer with the default options as set within the application. Once you have finished the command, you should have a captured data file.
You can now play with the sniffer as you would do for any other program that records data. If you only want to look at the data, you can go to the main screen by opening the SniffPass.csv file.
