XCAT or Xen/OpenVZ Controller
xCAT is the Xen, OpenVZ, LXC and LXD controller for Linux, UNIX and OS/390 Xen guests. The xCAT controller is based on the xCAT project, a free open source project for Linux (and variants), OS/390 and Solaris.
Version 1.0.8 of xCAT controller was released in 2011. Upgrades of the xCAT program are always released on the same date/week/month as the major version of Xen or OpenVZ is released.
Why xCAT? xCAT is the default controller for LXC, LXD, OpenVZ, and Xen (distributed under GPLv2). xCAT is fast, and it's easy to setup, install and maintain. It's already been tested for many live instances all around the world.
xCAT controller is released as open source project on GoogleCode. This article is the 1st of many tutorials that I will make available to help you run your own Linux system on your own hardware.
How to install the xCAT controller on a Windows machine.
On a Windows machine go to

Click on the button labeled "RPM Specification Package" in the middle of the page and follow the instructions.

Download the tar.gz file and unpack it to a folder of your choice.
Put that directory in your PATH. For example for the Debian/Ubuntu distribution its /opt/.
(Use the command)
$export PATH=/path/to/the/directory/with/tar.gz
Add 'xCAT=y' in the /etc/init.d/rc.local file with the service xCAT start command.
For example:
$grep xCAT /etc/init.d/rc.local
$grep add xCAT /etc/init.d/rc.local
$grep xCAT /etc/init.d/rc.local
If the system already has xCAT installed then
Click on Start > Service Manager > Services > Services that start at boot --> In the list of services check if xCAT is listed.
If xCAT is not listed, then follow "xC
