I want to start by introducing Joe Stanley, former assistant basketball coach at Indiana University, who is now the head coach at Troy University. Joe has accepted the athletic director position here at Winthrop, I think we can all be excited for him and what he will do for us. Thanks.
Welcome, Joe, thank you for being here.
One of the things that I was just so thrilled about when I got the call from Ron here in the middle of the night. I just couldn't believe it.
The first thing I told him was, "Are you serious?" I mean, when I heard it, I said, "are you really asking me to come here, to take this job?"
I was at home working on a video shoot and I heard that there was a potential opening here at Winthrop and I said, "I don't think this is really happening."
I'm at home, I get a call saying, "Come on down, you're going to take the job."
Of course, I went right away and took the job. I was so excited. I never dreamed that I would get the chance to coach at Winthrop and coach in front of these people and be part of the community.
I've had the opportunity to do that, you know, when I played here and that was the whole thing for me.
How would you describe your coaching style?
Well, I guess my style is that I like to play -- it's a very aggressive style, it's a very physical style. It's the kind of style that you are playing defense, you are playing offensively, you're playing for fun and you're playing to win.
Winning is what we have to do, that's what we have to concentrate on.
How does that work within the rest of the programs you have been involved with?
Well, it works. We had some of the best players that we had, right now we have a lot of guys that are playing real well, we're getting off to a great start.
When you're winning, you're going to attract good guys and you want the best guys on your team.
As a coach you can do that, as well.
If I'm building a program, I want the best guys and I want them to enjoy themselves as much as they can and if you build a team that's good and you have fun, it's
