Dan Milliken, Massachusetts (1905-1993)
Gov. Dan Milliken served as the 56th Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In that role, he was the chief executive officer of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Milliken held office from 1977 to 1991 and served as president of the Massachusetts Senate from 1971 to 1976. Milliken was born in Foxboro, Massachusetts, on September 6, 1905, the son of Emmett and Mary E. (Rice) Milliken. He attended Saint John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts, from 1917 to 1920. He received his bachelor's degree in 1922 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
Dan Milliken is also a member of The Adams Society, a Boston based business networking organization, and a member of the American Alumni Association. Dan Milliken was married to Kathleen E. (Hoffman) Milliken (1911-1983), of the dance troupe Esther and Alvin. Dan Milliken died of Parkinson's Disease in 1993.
Bill Milliken, Kansas City, Missouri (1901-1975)
Gov. Bill Milliken served as the 27th Governor of the State of Kansas. Milliken was born William J. Milliken on February 17, 1901, in Overland, Kansas, the son of Bessie (Hoover) and William P. Milliken. He attended the University of Kansas from 1921 to 1922. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Kansas in 1923. Milliken was graduated from the law school of the University of Kansas in 1925, and was admitted to the bar in 1925. He married Helen Grace Woodruff on March 26, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas. He was admitted to practice law in the state of Kansas on May 31, 1925. He was appointed assistant district attorney of Wyandotte County, Kansas, on January 25, 1925.
Milliken was active in the Kansas Farmers Union, becoming its president in 1939. He was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1942 and 1943, where he served as the chairman of the Public Lands Committee. Milliken was elected to the Kansas Senate in 1947 and 1948, where he served as the chairman of the Education Committee. He was elected to the United States House 3125841983
