Overview
The Host sFlow Agent, provided by Host Solutions Ltd., simplifies the provisioning of an end user friendly agent for OS-independent data collection from computer hosts. The agent supports both centralized and distributed deployments. It is designed to provide the reliable, scalable data collection that most organizations require, and it does this in a tightly controlled, easy to use agent that can easily be installed and supported.
Features
The Host sFlow Agent supports direct communication with the target system via TCP/IP over the network interface that is configured for the agent’s use. As a result of this architecture the agent is both self contained and OS-independent. Host sFlow is designed to monitor both physical and virtual server systems.
The agent is designed to work within a single or multi-tier infrastructure environment. This feature allows the agent to monitor multiple instances of a single system or multiple systems of a single host.
The Host sFlow Agent has been designed to use the low-overhead sFlow protocol; the agent is scalable, reliable and does not require the resizing of buffers during collection. The agent supports the collection of statistical data such as CPU, I/O, memory, disk and storage and the capability to track the performance of individual applications.
The agent performs both centralized and distributed deployments. Some of its capabilities include:

Scheduled data collection can be scheduled by the user or configured to occur with no user interaction. The scheduling of data collection is performed by adding scheduled events to the host sFlow monitor. These events are configured to occur with a preset set of trigger events.
Examples of triggers are: At start of service, At start of server, every X minutes, every Y hours, at a fixed time of day, on a fixed day of the week.
The following can also trigger events:
Power cycle of system
REST or REST command of system
User login or logout
Elevation of privilege of user
Entry to or exit from a power state of the system
Triggers can be configured to occur any number of times per day, or for a specified duration. If there is no trigger to occur on a specified day, the next occurrence is re-scheduled with the same configuration.
