Cultural appropriation can be seen in many different spectrums such as fashion, literature, music as well as in gastronomy. 
To culturally appropriate of something is to misrepresent a symbol or image typical of a culture as if it were a mere fantasy, or use them only with a financial interest and without any further involvement. This concept is directly related to the concept of Colonialism, cultural appropriation being a contemporary form of this practice and when it comes to food, to appropriate culturally would be to use someones culture in a disrespectful way and with the simple intention of profiting or promoting oneself, without having a genuine involvement with this culture and its representatives.
