Unlike the Mark-of-the-Web (MoWT) or the MoWT's successor, the FlagMark, with which it was (and still is) designed to be the industry standard, the FlexiSign's utility is to define a banner shape, print a defined message, and implement its own watermark to the graphic when printed. A watermark is essentially an invisible (or less so) "blend" of the artwork and the background.
It was not the intent of the MoWT, the FlagMark or the FlexiSign to be the standard way to digitally watermark artwork in digital and print media. This is also true of the most popular forms of digital watermarking. A watermark may be printed, stuck or digitally attached to the artwork. The FlexiSign was designed for the short term or for placement on final printed products (such as magazines). FlexiSign, which was developed for and sold to the Magazine and Newspaper industry, can be printed by many other printing presses on other media. It is ideally suited to the printed form. The majority of projects require the use of the FLXISIGN on one or more printed sheets. The FLXISIGN is NOT a digital watermarking system, nor does it work with the growing number of digital watermarking systems.
History

In January 2016, FlexiSign Pro went into escrow, citing lack of future support. However, in December 2017, the company was acquired by Toyo Corporation of Japan.
Early history
In 1996, FlexiSign was introduced at the Graphic Arts Show (GAS) 1996, shortly after the company was founded in 1993. The original company name of FlexiSign was “FlexiSign Corp.”. Originally, the product was sold to newspapers and magazines, as a way to mark the document after it was printed. The first version of FlexiSign was sold as a stand-alone product.
2001
FlexiSign released an upgraded version of its product called "FlexiSign Pro" or "FLXISIGN Pro".
2002
In 2002, FlexiSign released an upgraded version of its product called FlexiSign Pro 5.0.
2003
In 2003, FlexiSign's "FlexiSign Pro 6.0" was released.
2009
In 2009, FlexiSign introduced the FLX 3125841983
