Hello! Hello! Hello! What are you doing there? 
Every week, we send home our Weekly Windows leaflet where we tell you what we will be doing. This week, we decided to show you a variety of photographs of the kinds of things we get up to in school. So ….. you can see right through our windows! As it was a short week this week, and many students are on holidays, we have used a selection of recent photographs as well as some from this week. 
We started our Enormous Turnip story this week and have been listening to a variety of versions. We have been concentrating on writing u and we have done lots of activities related to this. We have also started spelling, writing and reading small words such as: cat, dog and bed. We are learning to read high frequency words such as: here, is, a. This has enabled us to start reading our first small booklet! 
In maths, we have been reviewing missing numbers, numbers before and after, counting to 100 and we also started looking at putting numbers together and counting them – the start of addition tasks. We have been working on number value and we can already subitise to 6. Most of us have very good understanding of the value of number within 10. One of us has great understanding of value of very large numbers that contain hundreds, tens and ones. 
 
The Lonely Firefly
Once again, we have had a wonderful week in the early years learning so many new things while having fun in all areas of the curriculum. This included our phonics and Maths programme. We continued to understand the world around us and examined the habitat and life cycle of the firefly.
We read Eric Carle’s book ‘The Very Lonely Firefly’, which tells the story of a young firefly. The firefly was born at sunset and immediately took off into the night sky looking for other fireflies. As the firefly flies through the night, there are various lights in the sky. Each time the fire fly flies towards the light he realizes it is something else: a candle, flashlight, lantern, even fireworks. The firefly starts to feel lonely because he can’t find other fireflies.
At the end of the book he finally comes across a group of fireflies. They are all flashing their own lights and the firefly joins them. He now feels safe and not lonely anymore.
Many activities were enjoyed by the children according to the ‘Fire Fly’ story.
We have been developing the technique of painting over the last few weeks. Painting with water colours allows children an educational opportunity that is fun and exciting. Children acquire hand-eye coordination, an important skill for their age. This is developed while they learn to paint the parts that they see; making sure their hand movement is on par with their vision.
