YEAR 2
This week we have started writing non-fiction books in English. We have used the school laptops to research different subject areas that we put together via individual mind-maps. We have managed to complete the first two chapters already as we look to finish off by the end of next week. The subject areas are incredibly interesting: swans, cats, diamonds, football players, robots, you name it! 
In Maths, we finished off subtraction work, whether it was mental arithmetic or 2-digit calculations. We also rounded up our work on money by looking at the decimal point and converting pennies to pounds. Our place value knowledge was put to good use!
In Topic, we finished off the Weather & Climate unit this week by looking at deserts. We studied three major deserts in particular: the Gobi, Mojave and Sahara deserts. We created fact files on our chosen desert that included areas such as animal/plant life, temperature, geographical location, size etc. 
In Art, we used the word 'technology', in alignment with our Phonics/spelling work, and decided to depict a robot. Ours was equipped with thrusters that came out of its feet and was capable of space travel, of course.  
We also spent most of the week preparing for International Day which was focused on Italy. Jacopo and his family did a fantastic job in educating the Primary school about their home nation and its rich history and culture. 
Finally, we had a delightful school trip to VDNHk Park in the glorious sunshine. Not only did we get to admire the fountains, architecture, rockets, jets, helicopters and space shuttle, but we also go to play in the park and eat ice cream! 
Phew, what a week! Well done, Year 2. 
RUSSIAN (Native). Year 2 students were preparing for the final Russian test. We reviewed previous topics, practiced with the exercises and concluded that it is very important to read all the instructions for the task and be very attentive during the test.
RUSSIAN (Non-native). Year 2 have been shopping ( not literally!) this week. The students learned useful Russian food and drink vocabulary, traditional meals, mealtimes and different things that we can buy in a supermarket. We also discussed what we would buy in the supermarket today.
